The Preschool currently operates 5 days per week, 41 weeks a year.

Wednesday: 7:30am - 3:00pm
Thursday: 9:00am - 3:00pm
Friday: 7:30am - 3:00pm
It is a 20 place Preschool providing care for children 3- 5 years.
This includes children with Special Needs, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders and children from Non-English speaking backgrounds.
The staff are all highly qualified and ensure an educational program that is interest based and in line with the National Quality Standards.
Our Management Committee made up of Executives and a General Committee
meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month and welcomes new families and community members to be a part of our Community Based Preschool.
The preschool is a non-for-profit community organisation which provides early childhood education for children three years to less than six years.
The preschool requests parent and community support in making children’s lives outside the family home a happy, safe, and rewarding one.
Mulwala Preschool is committed to the provision of quality early childhood education, that can be measured in terms of; education concept and practice; structural quality; interactions between educators and children; and by meeting the needs of families and local communities Mulwala Preschool will continue to develop educational programmes that reflect Belonging, Being and Becoming, the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (ACECQA 2020) in terms of pedagogy (principles and practices) and the outcomes required to enhance children’s learning, including their transition to school.
Mulwala Preschool’s programme will continue to apply the six principles that underpin the National Quality Standards (ACECQA 2020).
These are:
• The rights of the child are paramount
• Children are successful, competent and capable learners
• Equity, inclusion and diversity
• Valuing Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures
• The role of parents is respected and supported
• High expectations for children, educators and service providers
Mulwala Preschool will respond to decision-making by considering the best interests of children and their right to learn and develop in a safe and nurturing environment. Mulwala Preschool will maintain an open and accountable organisational culture that is flexible and responsive to the local community, and we reflect on our practice to find ways to improve outcomes for children (ACEQA 2020).
It was in 1966, that a group of young mothers met at the police residence to work towards establishing an Infant Welfare Centre in Mulwala. Mothers were finding accessing the centre in Yarrawonga increasingly difficult mainly due to lack of transport and long waits at the centre.
Lyn McErvale became president on April 5th 1967. The original members as far as records indicate, were: Wilma Hamson, Marie Edgecombe, Aileen Einerson, Doris Dury, Elaine Thomas, Pat Grant, Margaret Brennan, Vonny Dowling, Claire Sharp, Jenny Adkins, Judy Fisher, Mrs Parish, Mrs Woods, Joy Rice, Yvonne Jones and Wilma Ridley.
They formed a strong, united team of members, with almost every new mother joining the group. Over the next 4 years they began the task of seeking the support of the community.
They undertook an intense round of fundraising, organised meetings with the Local Member Tim Fischer, presented their case to Corowa Council and requested the Lands Department grant us some crown land for the building. In 1967 Mulwala Children were no longer accepted at Yarrawonga Pre-School and the Lands Department granted us 17,000SQ ft. The committee then raised a lot of Money and the council loaned them 10,000 repayable over 20 years. On the 9th of February 1970 Mulwala’s first Pre-School Kindergarten opened in the old Church of England Hall with an overwhelming response of both 3 and 4 year old’s (approx. 40 Children.). Soon after this opening, the committee handed over to a new dedicated band of enthusiastic workers they called a public Meeting thus ensuring that the first Kindergarten in the Corowa Shire became a reality.
The new Kindergarten opened in its present building 19th July 1971, there were 52 children aged between 3 and 5 years in attendance.
